Classical Game - 3 hours
Day 6 of the Maia Chess Open. An eventful day. Started with a morning round and got in trouble early on in a Kalashnikov Sicilian. Drew from a lost position as my opponent let me off the hook in an endgame. Afterwards I took part in the Streamer’s Cup blitz event (a very fun experience), followed by a football game (also fun!), and ended the day with an evening chess party (the most fun).
While the classical game wasn’t my best, there was lots of highlights for the day. Losing a brilliancy to Anna Cramling in the blitz, getting hit in the face with a soccer ball, and then scoring my first ever goal! I have to say the hospitality of our Portuguese hosts is quite lovely, they are truly treating us well.
White has several good moves, but simplest is 1.Rxb7 (1.Rd7+- also works), with idea 1…Bd4 2.Rcc7! and Black gets mated. Or if 1…Rxf2 2.Rxf2 Bd4 3.Rf7+-
4.5/6. Wasn’t too happy to draw with a lower rated player, but on the other hand I was busted the whole game, so seems like a fortunate result.
