Training Log
Classical Game - 3 hours
Post-mortem - 20 minutes
Started a new tournament today, the 28th Festival Internazionale Di Scacchi, held in Montesilvano, Italy. Like I mentioned in my last post, the conditions so far have been excellent. We’re right on the Adriatic Coast, just meters from the beach, and surrounded by delicious Italian cuisine.
The plan was for Zach (thechessnerd) and myself to dual stream our games this tournament, but as fate would have it, we ended up paired in the first round!
Not the pairing I was hoping for, I really don’t like facing my friends. But we treated it like a training game, and of course it made for good content.
Coming out of a neo-Catalan, Zach spent a lot of time in the opening, but managed to reach a solid position. I thought I had a bit of pressure, as it wasn’t so easy for Black to find squares for all of their pieces. On move 17, Zach blundered a pawn, avoiding an endgame that was probably equal. I grabbed my chance and was happy to convert with some nice precision:
1.Qd7!+- with the point that 1…Rxe5 loses to 2.Qe8+ Bf8 3.Qxe5+- , but Black loses material regardless.
Kavutskiy - Saine, Montesilvano 2024
1/1. Hoping for another good start to the tournament!
